Carolina Navigators Summer 2017 Internships

Carolina Navigators is looking to hire a Media Center Intern and a Communications Coordinator Intern for the Summer 2017 semester (May-August 2017).

  • Intern Position # 1 :: Communications Coordinator
  • Intern Position # 2 :: Media Center Coordinator

Position #1: Communications Coordinator

Get valuable professional experience relevant to communications, global education, and program management. The Carolina Navigators program is housed in the Center for Global Initiatives (CGI), a vibrant National Resource Center.

Get to know a small, upbeat team of creative staff at Carolina Navigators who maintain the K-12 multimedia center, teach service-learning courses, and promote the program to teachers and students. Excellent fit for those interested in global studies, education or internationally-focused careers and issues.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 
•    Maintain and update the Carolina Navigators website and social media sites
•    Create and send monthly electronic newsletter to teachers.
•    Other tasks as needed (e.g. general office duties, researching international and intercultural education trends at state and national levels, photograph program-related events and shoot/edit video, etc.)

REQUIREMENTS:

•    Creatively integrate your special skills, perspective and knowledge.
•    Complete tasks, communicate clearly, and solve problems as they arise.
•    Ability to work independently, make informed decisions, and take initiative.
•    Excellent attention to detail and thoroughness.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Strong skills in Microsoft Word & Excel.
•    Other computer skills as required (e.g. iMovie, Mail Chimp, WordPress. etc).

HELPFUL SKILLS OR EXPERIENCE:

•    Email marketing and social media marketing (Facebook Pages, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube, and Google+)
•    Experience living, studying or working abroad for at least one summer.
•    Previous enrollment in the Carolina Navigators Global Service Learning Experience or other APPLES service-learning class is a plus.

This position is offered as an unpaid internship for professional or volunteer experience. Earn hours for Buckley Public Service Scholars! 
A 10 hour per week commitment is expected.

Position #2: Media Center Coordinator

The Carolina Navigators program in the Center for Global Initiatives (CGI), a vibrant National Resource Center, is looking to enhance its program and further community ties with your help and enthusiasm.

Get to know a small, upbeat team of creative staff at Carolina Navigators who lead the service-learning course, assist with instructional planning and implementation, and promote the program to teachers and students. Excellent fit for students interested in global studies, education or internationally-focused careers and issues.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
•    Manage and organize all aspects of the Culture Kit lending process
•    Correspond with teachers K-12 about library materials
•    Design documents to supplement Culture Kits (e.g., item descriptions, inventories, kit guides)
•    Assist with other projects as needed

REQUIREMENTS:

•    Creatively integrate your special skills, perspective and knowledge.
•    Complete tasks, communicate clearly, and solve problems as they arise.
•    Excellent attention to detail and thoroughness.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Excellent customer service.
•    Strong skills in Microsoft Word & Excel.
