Uzo Nwakibu
My name is Uzo Nwakibu and I am a medical student at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. My trip to Nairobi, Kenya was an amazing experience. I was born and raised in Maryland, but my family is from Nigeria and the majority of my family still lives there. For as long as I have been interested in medicine, I have been motivated to positively impact healthcare systems in Nigeria and other African nations; however, until this summer, all I had was a raw dream. I had no concrete plan or goals to actually make my dreams a reality. This is precisely why I chose to spend my summer managing a pediatric emergency medicine research project in Nairobi, Kenya. I wanted to use my summer to get a better understanding of how a medical system in a developing nation may operate, so conducting research in Kenyatta National Hospital (one of Africa’s largest public hospitals) was a great opportunity for me.
(Most items in this kit were added by Uzo. However, some items were pulled from other Carolina Navigators Kenya Culture Kits, and were added to his kit items).
