My name is Chelsea Phipps and I’m from the mountains of North Carolina, from a little town called Sylva. I’m majoring in Global Studies and Political Science and am hoping to work in international development, focusing on the sustainability of foreign aid models and project management and strategy.

Two years ago, I worked at The Aids Support Organization through the Foundation for Sustainable Development in Masaka, Uganda. I worked in the counseling department in addition to creating and obtaining grant funding for a kitchen garden project.

Last summer I worked in Phnom Penh, Cambodia with International Development Enterprises. I assisted in research in the field with focus groups and individual interviews. I wrote case studies on clients of IDE’s latest project, creating video and blog post documentaries.

I also studied abroad for a semester over a year ago in Granada, Spain, living with a host family and taking classes in Spanish. I have dual citizenship (American and British) and have traveled to England every other year while I was growing up.

Through my opportunities to live abroad, I have managed to travel to 25 different countries so far! And, I have no intention of stopping there.

Chelsea, what were the areas that you found challenging in contrast to culture, awareness and education. Would you return to the placements your worked at if given another opportunity? Would you recommend others to take such opportunities?
