VoiceThread: Exploring Germany’s Rich History, One Site at a Time

ID # 5098

Europe, Germany
History

Description:

While spending time in Germany, I became fascinated by my everyday simultaneous exposure to the old and the new.  In Germany, historical preservation and modern development often go hand in hand, thus creating a fusion of old and new. This video gives a brief introduction to Germany’s rich history by visiting several key historic sites in various regions of Germany.

Educational & Intercultural Objectives:

History should be understood not as a compartmentalized set of events but as the foundation for today’s society.By presenting key historical sites as well as their re-emergence into modern society and pop culture,  this video encourages students to think about the natural interaction between the old (the historical) and the new (the modern). Students are also encouraged to think about the importance of historical site preservation within the context of today’s society.

This video is geared towards 6th grade students.
