Japan- A Japanese Train Ride

ID # 3755

Asia, Japan

Hi! My name is Maura and I’m a senior finishing up my bachelors in Global Studies with a focus in Asia and Transnational Culture and a minor in both Japanese and Anthropology. Right now I’m from Jacksonville, NC, but I’ve lived all over the world as a military kid. I lived in Japan for three years during high school, so my interest and emotional attachment lie with the country. As far as teaching experience goes, I spent this summer volunteering for a non-profit organization helping educators teach kids of all ages all about environmental science and conservation, and I spent my weekends and afternoons in Japan teaching conversational English to a few small private classes. I’m always looking forward to sharing my experiences abroad with other people.

Presentation Summary:

Ever wondered what it’s like to travel Japan? What about traveling the country without much knowledge of the language? This presentation will mimic a journey through several stops in the country. Each stop is a pin-point on a real train map from Japan. Along the way, we’ll see real pictures of temples and festivals, talk about authentic cuisine, practice our Japanese, learn about some popular culture, and get a feel for the transportation system of the country. The tour is meant to be a visual representation of the highlights of my stay in Japan.
