My name is Sneha Kumar and I am a junior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am majoring in Mathematics, with a double minor in French and English. Though I grew up in the U.S., I was actually born in India in a city called Madras, in Tamil Nadu, a state in South India. The language of Tamil Nadu is Tamil, which is my mother tongue. However, soon after I was born, my family moved to another city in India called Jamshedpur, in the northern Indian state of Jharkhand. Because we lived in north India as well, my family speaks both Hindi and Tamil at home, so English was actually my third language. We moved to the United States when I was 2 years old, and we have lived in North Carolina since I was 4. However, we still go back to visit India every few years, as most of our family still lives there. My sister and I grew up in an Indian American household, which definitely changed how I viewed my childhood here, as well as made me more aware of other cultures and countries around the world. I hope you all enjoy this culture kit of a few items that are commonly found in Indian households, both in India and around the world.
