Culture Kit

Iraq

ID # 7270

Iraq, Middle East

Welcome to Iraq! This kit is full of items to help your class learn more about the country. Several picture books come in this kit, many focusing on the history and culture of Iraq. Arabic magnet letters and a children’s workbook give students a chance to compare and contrast their schools with schools in Iraq. Prayer beads and a prayer rug can be used to introduce discussions about religion, and items like receipts and newspapers give a glimpse into daily life in Iraq. This kit contains some fragile items and is best suited for upper elementary to middle school audiences. The tea tumbler set will only be included for reservations designated as pick-up.

Noor Ghazi

My name is Noor Ghazi, and I am an Arabic Lecturer at UNCG and Durham Tech. I also teach on special topics on Iraq at UNC-Chapel Hill. Additionally, I have joined Mosul University recently as a visiting lecturer. I usually travel to Iraq to visit my family and work on projects to cover conflict in Iraq, such as my recent documentary on social life under ISIS in Mosul. However, my recent trip to Iraq (July 2021) was very special because I went with my husband and little daughter, Talla, 6 years old for the first time to show her the beauty of Iraq and immerse her in its great culture. We were able to visit many great places in North Iraq and enjoy the nature, culture, food, and its great markets.
