I interned with Global Vision International thanks to the Carolina Global Initiative Award I received through the Global Center at UNC. I was able to help design and execute workshops for children ages 6-12 years old. The workshops I was involved with were largely based around oral hygiene, first-aid care, and overall hygiene. There I was able to work with the children from the Ludoteca, a daycare program through Save Our Children, and Invasores, a region in Playa with low-income resources. The children were so curious and always willing to learn English. Each child was so gracious. It was humbling. They showed us the deep appreciation and urge to exploit any opportunities that came their way every minute we were with them. The week at Invasores was awe-inspiring. I have never seen so many kids excited to attend a summer school program. They kept asking me if they could bring school supplies to record lessons. They were so supportive of each other, sharing plates, cups, and skills with their peers.
