My name is Anza Abbas and I am a senior, majoring in Global Studies and Economics. I was interested in the Burch Field Research program because I wanted to learn about the international criminal courts that are housed in The Netherlands and understand how they operate to deal with the war crimes that have taken place in the world. Visiting Den Haag exposed me to several international organizations and taught me about their functions.

Hi, my name is Julia Stroup and I’m a senior at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill studying Peace, War, and Defense and Political Science. I travel to the Netherlands this summer with a study abroad program to study international law and post-genocide reconciliation. I stayed the majority of my time in the Netherlands in The Hague visiting the International Criminal Court (ICC), International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon (STL). It was very interesting and insightful to meet with some of the representatives of those institutions and learn more about their various challenges and successes. I also enjoyed visiting the local restaurants and shopping in my free time. I would love to visit the Netherlands again in the future!
