Karlo Monterico

Hi! My name is Karlo Monterico and I am currently a senior Biology major at UNC. I went to the Philippines with two other undergraduate students this summer for 7 weeks where we were studying the migration of Filipino nurses to the United States by interviewing nursing students, faculty and administration of colleges of nursing, and active nurses where we are compiling their stories into a documentary. We hope to provide a personal account to the migration of nurses instead of the extant research that revolves more on hard data. We were in Manila, the capital with almost 13 million inhabitants, and Tuguegarao, a much more provincial city-town 10 hours from Manila. The items that we purchased for our culture kit were mostly found at markets and small shops, the perfect place to buy things that Filipinos use on a daily basis.

(Most items in this kit were collected by Karlo, but some were pulled from other Carolina Navigators Philippines Culture Kits and were added to his kit).
